We've all heard of 'finger spaces' in our writing, and many teachers use a 'space man' (a popsicle stick dressed as an astronaut) to remember how to properly space our words.
Instead of giving my students a pre-designed space man, I wanted them to design a space boy or girl that resembled them! Here's what they came up with:
Hopefully these will help in future writing assignments! They sure look cute! I just need to laminate them so the kiddos can store them safely in their pencil boxes. (If you're wondering why one child has purple hair when I'm a stickler for realistic coloring, it's because she has purple beads throughout her hair.)
On the topic of writing and punctuation, this is one of my favorite books to read to kindergartners about end punctuation:
Exclamation Mark, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
It's all about an exclamation mark who feels like he doesn't fit on because he's surrounded by periods... Until one day, when he meets a question mark! Adorable. I highly recommend all books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Her books are clever and have a great moral. Kids and adults will both enjoy her books as read-alouds!
